No, its not a sequel. And its not necessary to read Da Vinci Code but it would be better if you do. You will get a better understanding of Robert Langdon’s character that way. And according to imdb.com the movie is in development and is expected to come out in 2012.

no you don’t need to read da vinci code, although certain moments refer to the book (but they’re only like…10 sentences in total)

and yes there will be a movie, release in 2012
