Have you read "A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket?
I read them When I was 16 or 17 and even though they look like kids books I found that i actually enjoyed them more because I was old enough to understand the way he writes.
He uses a lot of subtle, satirical humor as well as an avdvanced vocabulary coupled with a non-sequitur writing style, which may be confusing to younger readers, but I found to be genuinely inspired, making them much more enjoyable than one would expect.

You don’t need to spend it all at once you could look at one book and read it then buy more after you read it. I like the YA book Pendragon I bought it because the 1st book is cheap. I also like Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins another book I bought for my teen but I think they are both in the library now.
Look at Terry Pratchett’s Wee Free Men. I think you can sit and read a couple of chapters and see if you like it before you buy the book.

I read mostly fantasy so I’ll leave you a list and descriptions of some of my favorites.
Anything by Terry Brooks. He writes three series. The Shannara series that is VERY LONG. There are so many of these. They are about this family in this fantasy world with dwarfs, elves, druids, magic and cool things like that. I love them. They keep evolving. The First, Sword of Shannara, is about a half-human, half-elf who has to find this sword and save the world. The second is about his son using Elfstones to find a girl and get her to where she needs to be to repair this wall between here and where the really evil things live. The first books in the series are very classic fantasy, swords and horses stuff. But as time goes by, generations later they develop new technologies. There was a set of three where they traveled around looking for a treasure in an airship. This series is long and epic and I love it all.
There’s the Word and The Void. This one’s about a wizard guy who is trying to prevent the future he lives when he falls asleep. I haven’t finished this one so I’m not totally sure what goes on, but it’s a good modern times good vs. evil thing.
And then there’s my favorite: the Landover series. They’re about a lawyer who has nothing meaningful to do since his wife died. And he finds an ad in a magazine for a Magic Kingdom for sale. He buys it for a mere million dollars and travels there to become king. Problem is, they haven’t had one in 20 years and the place is falling apart. I love this series totally because of the Wizard and the Scribe. They’ve got one of those classic ‘Friends who act like they hate each other’ relationship. This one’s good fantasy, witches, dragons, fairy people…(Landover is featured on his site below since there’s a new book in the series out. I’ve been waiting for this book for half my life… I’m excited)
The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Johnathan Stroud. They’re about and told by Bartimaeus, powerful Djini. He’s sarcastic and wonderful. He gets tangled up with this young wizard and they end up having to save the day a couple of times. It’s very funny.
the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I have like a shelf and a half of these. They’re just a ton of books that all take place on the Discworld. You can group them together by subject. There’s the witches. The Wizzard, the city watch. and Death (He’s an anthropomorphic personification) who tends to go off to do something that isn’t taking care of people at the moment they die. There are also a few in the young adult section. They’re about Tiffany Aching, witch in training. Tiffany is great, and she gets Feegles to follow her around, they’re smurf sized, dirty and rude, and hilarious. They are very funny and they make fun of everything. Nothing is safe.
Last I’ll list Artemis Fowl by Eoin Coilfer. Artemis is an 11 year old Irish genius. He’s from a crime family and has decided that he’s going to steal fairy gold from them to fund a rescue mission to rescue his missing father before he grows too old to believe in fairies. As it turns out the fairies are real and more technologically advanced than humans. But Artemis fools them and becomes Fairy enemy #1. There are a few books in this series. They’re really good adventure/detective sort of books.
